Bodhisattvas, Gods, and Goddesses, and other Enlightened Beings

Energy can be differentiated by its characteristics into feminine and masculine.  In the realm of Buddhist iconography, energy, which is perceived by the filter of our minds with all its set ideas of what the world is and looks like, it is often perceived in human form. Some deities have a mixture of the gender characteristics but many fall on one side or the other of the creation and dissolution sides of energy states.  Other deities are a mixture of human and animal, or human and object, such as Vajrakilaya, with the lower body of a purbha.
